This is an interactive workshop hosted at various locations across the state, linked together via video conferencing.
Theme: Using Visual Images and Words to Teach English Language Learners of all Ages
Presenter Gail Wakatake is a 6th-grade DOE classroom teacher with ELLs in her classroom and an evening ELL teacher of adults. Gail will present three 10-minute presentations of projects that use visual images with words. Each short presentation will be followed by a short brainstorming session (with elbow partners) to discuss how presented ideas could be implemented in our own classrooms OR to practice the strategy she just presented. Next, partner brainstorm will be followed by short full-group share. (Gail's presentation will be transmitted to our island affiliates, but the pair/share activities will be local to save time--10 min. total for each pair/share activity.) Total workshop will be 60-75 min.
